This Friday and Saturday the 16th and 17th, the Vashon Golf and Swim Club is having a Pro Am Fundraiser, for the Vashon Island High School Golf Team which, if we heard this right, has ‘zero funding’ at this time.
They typically raise about $2.5k from charity, and to start the season this year, are seeking to raise 1.5k . One of our valued instructors, Craig Kennedy will be participating. Tournament entry fees goes towards this fund, and includes playing, and meals.
In prior years, there were some twenty-five sponsors (appreciations on behalf of our friends) and we cannot possibly name them all, but to name yet a few, the top five previously were:
- Foss Miller and Pacific Research Laboratories, Inc., aka Sawbones, which with 140 employees, is one of the largest employers on Vashon Island (synthetic and artificial bones, for orthopedics).
- Trigg Insurance (independent).
- Louis Roggenbuck Construction.
- Windermere Realty, of Vashon Island.
- Vashon Thriftway.
As the Vashon Golf and Swim Club describes: ‘Deceptively challenging, our 9 hole course has amazing views of Quartermaster Harbor, with snow-capped Olympic Mountains as its backdrop. Tee boxes are placed for an 18 hole layout you will love, and perhaps occasionally hate. The course was designed by H.D. Williams and opened in 1927. There are rolling fairways and lots of changes of elevation. The greens are well contoured and fast paced placing a premium on shot-making and a reliable short game. It is par 70 that measures 5,900 yards‘ with putting green, netted practice area, pull carts, and rental clubs at the Pro Shop. Phone them at 206 463-9410. We wish Craig the best!
Remember, tomorrow is ‘Ladies Night‘, which is a one hour clinic with ‘basic golf instruction’ with our instructor Bill Rasmas, at a cost of just $25.00 for instruction and range fee. Bill is easy to talk to and really knows the game. Typically six to eight ladies attend and the session is designed to allow for eight to twelve participants. Everyone loves it, and this is every Tuesday 6 to 7 pm.
Lastly, don’t forget, you can save by purchasing a ‘Range card‘. which has four pricing options for our customers:
